(Scrapped) Pre-Production

Making a start on the pre-production for my short film, the first task I decided to get ahead on was the script. Only being a messy draft as of now, with what I have so far I will be using it as a base to help me figure out the story, to then patching up the missing elements.


With a new idea as to how I want the story to be told, this draft has been scrapped and rewritten into a version I am more happy to move forward with. Discussing the though process here, a separate document has been created.


Preferring this structure to the story, I have slowly come to terms with the fact that I won't be able to afford the production costs. After making the attempt of using a crowdfunding page as mentioned, a new idea has come to mind. An idea that has more of a possible outcome to it. That though, I will discuss in the blog post after this.

Before getting into that though, here is a reveal to where I am with the script so far:


With a section of the script missing, a bump was hit. Considering the limits I had with the production of this, I wasn't exactly sure how I could go about it. Knowing fine well how I wanted the story to both start and end, it was just the middle I couldn't figure out. Should I start from the beginning introducing Mary Ann Cotton as a child? The death of her father? The marriage between Mary Ann and her first husband? A few husbands in maybe? The death of her first child?

Clueless on where to go with that, luckily the new idea I was referring to had came up. Proud of what I do have so far, unfortunately it just isn't something I can move forward with.

Another thing I did end up making a start on though, not as important but I mostly did this for me. The props I was going to need for this short. Not getting too far into it, a PowerPoint gathering my ideas had been made allowing me to figure out and note down what I could use and how I would go retrieving those items.


Like I said, I hadn't got far into the document with only one prop idea getting jotted down.

Final Product and Feedback

With the first draft for the short film, in this version there are no added tracks (minus the ringing of the bell). Mostly because this is the draft I had sent over to the sound people allowing them to do as they please with that whole aspect of the short film. Again, I don't get what is up with the quality, for some reason the videos always worsen once uploaded on to YouTube and I have no idea how to solve that.  Besides from that, to give the sound guy time to get together his version of the soundtrack, the next draft will be my version. Using Pixabay mostly to gather to the music bits as that is the most I can do on my own. But with that, at least I have a version ready to go if the freelance composer doesn't get back to me in time with the sound bits he had created for the short. Alongside that, any bits I find that need patching up I will do the best I can there. Post-Production

 As you will know from the Production diary itself, I did have to combine both the production stage and the post-production due to lack of time, and just to get everything done sooner rather than later. And considering the amount of time it had taken to get filming complete, it is a decision I am thankful with myself for taking. Having a separate diary to document the editing process, here it is: Post-production diary.docx from AmyKilbride2 For how long I have been working on the post production, it feels wrong to be done with this part of the project already. With more to wait on before the editing is complete, the editing update that will be based on the audience feedback that will be talked through in the following blog.

Evaluation

Gathering my final thoughts on the entire project, the evaluation has been written up. Using Microsoft Sway being the preferred method for this task due to its use of structure, you link will be uploaded below as always. B2_ Bright Lights Evaluation.pdf from AmyKilbride2 Thinking I wouldn't have had time to get on with the poster (as mentioned), and/or hear back from the guy helping me with the sound side of the final product, two drafts of the evaluation had been put together for just encase.
