Poster

In preparation of this project, I did make a start on creating a fan based poster from scratch based on the book and movie, Pet Sematary. By doing this, I could gain practice and strengthen my skills ready to bring to this project. Doing a photoshoot with half of the editing done, the process of what I had managed to get done up to now had all been documented.

With it unfortunately uncomplete, my laptop at the time of doing this did break down causing me to lose the whole progress. Not having a clue as to what happened, I had never got around to restarting this project either.

Still wanting to create a poster for my Sunderland Culture product, before the photoshoot a few prototypes have been put together allowing me to gather a rough idea of what I would like to create rather than jumping in clueless.

Still going to mess around with the photoshoot so I am not restricting my options, it helps having even a small idea of what I could go on to create.

Once the photoshoot was done, editing had began.
Favouriting the first design out of the drafts, I did want to create a few more to go off but with limited time there is only so much I could get done unfortunately.

Seeing them all together, they look as if they were made for a Wattpad story. But they work for the product so that's all I need.

With the final outcome, I am planning to add more to the chosen design as more definitely could be done to each in making it look more like a poster for a short film.

Wanting to gather upfront opinions on the designs, a survey has been created and sent around to a selected five people. Four of which, who had responded in completing it.
Overall, based on the second draft, the notes I can take away for the final product include:
Creating two copies of the outcome, one in colour the other in black and white.
The font fits with the design and layout of the chosen draft.
Darken the colour aspect slightly more.
The transparency and layout are favourited elements of the design.
Make the setting less daylight, and more of an evening one.
With all of them, there is also multiple mentions about the ghost in the poster not being a woman, but with that I can only see what I can do with it being too late to go back, and not having any woman that wanted to be a part of the project.

With that done, I can finally make a move and complete the final product.

Creating another diary as such to document the progress, it clearly isn't as detailed but it has the information it needs.
Feeling more rushed compared to the previous diary's made, a lot more effort would have went into the making of the flat product if I had took the time to get this done a lot sooner. But any who, I am pleased to say I have come out of this project with the short film, and two posters to go alongside that short film.

For this layout, I would say the colour version is better than the black and white, but again there is nothing wrong with having the variety considering everyone has their own opinions. Definitely showing me as I personally though this layout wasn't as good as the survey responses made it out to be.

For this one to work, maybe more play around would be needed to fit the aesthetic in clearer. I do really like the title though, how it isn't a very bright and 'look at me' colour, but it sits really well with that tiny hint of blue.

Photo editing definitely isn't a specialty of mine, but with what I have managed to create I am pleased enough to say I am happy with the results.

So. Update. I went back over one of the posters thinking that was the chosen final product and had updated it to appear more like an official movie poster. Turns out it was the wrong product, but rather than going back and changing the layout of this blog, instead I will just update it here and share what has been changed.

First of all, the production diary has been updated:
And here is what was created:
Very happy with the result of that, I am still having to go back now and go over the real chosen final products. But at least with this one it has helped give me an idea of what to do with the layout.

Rather than adding again to the diary, I just went ahead and edited both versions of the final outcome.

Wanting to do the layouts differently for each version, I do prefer the black and white product to the colour for the text placement's as it feels more fitting. I also wanted to adjust the colours having them blend in more with the aesthetic of the poster whereas in the coloured design no changes were made really.

I do quite like the 'coming soon' bit being in the bottom left hand corner, other than that I am not to big on this layout.

I did also want to include the billing block for the poster, but really because of the way the title was placed the block was never going to fit on the page.

Happy enough with the results, I am pleased to finish off calling these my final products.
